I would like to introduce myself to you. I am, Mrs. Nora Hyde, your child's eighth grade science teacher. This is my 26th year of teaching science at the middle school grade level. I have a Bachelor degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Radford University. I completed my Masters degree in Teaching and Learning from Nova Southeastern University. I am also a National Board Certified Teacher. This is my 21st year teaching at Braden River Middle School and I look forward to many more.
I would also like to tell you a little bit about the activities I have planned for this year. Preparing students for the world in which they will live and work is extremely important. Students need to learn how to become effective problem solvers in real-world situations. Therefore, in this class we will learn science and identify how science applies
to students' lives. In addition to reading and discussing science content, we will design and carry out meaningful activities and draw conclusions based on our experiences.
You can encourage your child by asking questions about the science concepts we are studying in school. You might help them to understand the importance of science in everyday life by showing them how science can be found in almost everything we do.
Your child's success in science is important to me, and our communication about your child's progress in science can be instrumental to his or her success. Feel free to e-mail or call me whenever you have questions or concerns. My e-mail address is hyden@manateeschools.net and my phone number at school is 751-7080 Ext. 2034. You may also contact me through the use of your child's agenda. I look forward to working with you this year as we help your child learn the skills necessary to be successful in science.
